Home energy costs are rising. The debate over climate change rages on. Whether you are more concerned about one or the other, chances are that at some point, you have probably wondered about ways to save on electric bill using off grid system to power your home. You are not alone. This is a growing trend.
Solar power is an obvious solution for some in our country. With a combination of solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and some energy conserving habits, there is no reason why a typical family home could not operate on this alone. This is what is called a stand-alone system and they are wonderful solutions for people in more remote areas. These systems are used by those just wanting to be free from their local power company.
Not all of our nation’s lands fall into an abundance of sunshine though. Have no fear though as there are still options. Wind energy generally is thought of next, after solar energy. Wind does seem to be more plentiful and accessible than the sun for much of the country.
Within cities, and in places where residential plots are small, a wind turbine may not be a realistic solution. However, many in semi-rural areas, or even in suburban neighbourhoods where plots are larger, these turbines can provide a real answer. One turbine, depending on size, can provide enough power for a home.
Micro-hydro electricity is another solution that works to produce free electricity. However, not many people think of it because it is uncommon. This alternative energy form is probably the most accessible, and more reliable of the three options. With the proper water supply, this could provide more than enough off grid energy for years to come.
Off grid energy is growing and developing more every day. The demand for it is increasing rapidly. Whether it is just to cut costs, or to reduce your impact on the environment, it is worth researching and looking into.

Whether you are motivated by saving money, or because you care more about our ecological system than the average Joe, chances are you have thought about ways to save on electric bill using off grid system to power your home. There are ways and you can use them.
In some areas of the country, the solution is obvious – solar power. With the right combination of solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries, there is no reason why you could not run a normal family home off of this alone. These are known as stand-alone systems, and they are the ideal solution if you are in a more remote area.
What if you are not in our nation’s region that experiences abundant sunshine? Other options are still available to you. Wind energy is also jumps to mind when people think of alternative power. Wind also tends to be more available nationwide than sunshine.
While putting up a wind turbine on a small city lot may not be an ideal solution, there are many people living in suburban or semi-rural areas for whom this becomes an ideal and very viable solution.
It is fair to say that micro hydro electricity does not ready pop into the minds of many people. However, this is also quite an efficient source of renewable energy. Should the water supply available to you be plentiful, this can be a wonderful way to provide for lots of reliable energy for years to come. The energy produced this way is also very consistent, something which the other two alternatives are still working on.
Going the route of alternative energy and off the grid power not only frees you from the bounds of your local power company, but also drastically reduces your carbon footprint. Be sure to check out your area, consider your needs, and know your climate well before jumping into any of these. A little background research can save you more energy than you will ever know.
